Free Windows Phone 8 Smartphone to be Available on Verizon for the Holiday Season

Verizon has already announced its first two offerings into the Windows Phone 8 platform — the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 822. Coming in at $199 and $99, respectively, the phones are planned for release just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday and the annual Black Friday shopping weekend.

The Verge has picked up word today straight from Verizon Wireless CMO Tami Erwin on what the wireless phone service provider plans to offer for their Windows Phone 8 lineup this holiday season. According to Erwin, ”there will be a $99 and a $199 [option] and ultimately before the end of the year we will have a device that comes in at the free [price] point.”

There’s no word yet on what device Verizon plans to offer for free, but the provider did mention at the Windows Phone 8 launch event that the Samsung Ativ Odyssey would be available sometime in December. The device was leaked yesterday on the Evleaks Twitter account and its supposed design has been met with a fair amount of criticism, possibly leaving the device a good choice for Verizons upcoming freebie offer.
